Dr. Kristina Wiers-Shamir
Dr. Kristina Wiers-Shamir is a specialist in providing comprehensive care to children with rheumatic diseases including juvenile arthritis, childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, fibromyalgia and many other conditions.
Dr. Wiers-Shamir is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois. She went on to Loyola University Chicago for her Post-Baccalaureate, completing her medical training at Ross University School of Medicine, and went to Maimonides Infants and Children's Hospital of Brooklyn for her pediatric residency. Dr. Wiers-Shamir completed her fellowship training in pediatric rheumatology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital while concurrently earning a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Development.
Her training and experience includes improving treatment for children with systemic lupus erythematosus, studying health-related quality of life in childhood rheumatic disease, and validating tests for active pediatric lupus nephritis. Dr. Wiers-Shamir has published several peer-reviewed journal articles in pediatric rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, American Association of Pediatrics, the Arthritis Foundation, the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance, and the Pediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organization.
