Pediatric Associates is proud to announce the addition of Melissa Diamond, M.D. to its growing team of pediatric specialists. As a pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Diamond will provide care to Pediatric Associates’ patients suffering from cardiac conditions and diseases such as congenital heart defects, heart failure and cardiomyopathy.
“Heart conditions in children are surprisingly common,” said Diamond, “In fact, they’re the most common type of birth defect and the number one cause of death during the first year of life. Pediatric Associates recognized the need for an in-house cardiologist to provide the highest quality of care for its patients while lessoning the burden of time-consuming referrals and frequent ‘red tape’. I’m honored they chose me to care for the hearts of their South Florida patients.”
Diamond, a South Florida native, attended the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine before completing her residency and fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital. In order to be easily accessible, she will see patients from existing Pediatric Associates offices in both Aventura and Sunrise.
“It can be incredibly frightening for any parent to learn their child may have a heart condition,” said Pediatric Associates CEO Peter J. Shulman, M.D., FAAP, MBA. “The addition of Dr. Diamond to our team of talented physicians will allow for greater continuity of care between herself and the pediatricians who care for these patients day in and day out. Parents can feel a sense of ease knowing our team of physicians are constantly communicating and working together to create the best treatment plan for their child.”
Diamond joins several pediatric specialists, including three allergists, four hospitalists, an endocrinologist and a rheumatologist, who provide care for all of Pediatric Associates’ South Florida patients. According to Shulman, Pediatric Associates plans to add several more specialists in 2017.
