Australian study finds vaccinations and autism not linked

A review of data covering more than 1.25 million children found no link between autism and vaccinations for such childhood diseases as measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, according to a study by the University of Sydney published in the journal Vaccine. “The data consistently shows the lack of evidence for an association between autism, autism spectrum disorders and childhood vaccinations,” said senior author Guy Eslick. The link between autism and vaccinations was popularized in a now-discredited 1998 paper that Eslick says is still cited by some groups.
