Q&A with Dr. Chen

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

My favorite movie is Frozen because it highlights the powerful theme that love can conquer fear and lead to positive outcomes. It reminds me that embracing love and courage can transform even the most difficult situations.

What is your favorite children's book and why?

My favorite book is Harry Potter, as it’s filled with imagination, friendship, courage, and loyalty—qualities that continue to inspire me.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

My favorite childhood toy was dolls. I loved sewing clothes for them and pretending to be their mom.

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

My greatest inspiration is my dad. He’s a dedicated pediatrician who truly loves his work, and his passion inspired me to follow in his footsteps and become a pediatrician too.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and watching movies. Traveling allows me to explore new places, meet different people, and experience a variety of cultures and lifestyles. Watching movies is a great way for me to relax and enjoy different stories and perspectives.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

My dad is a pediatrician, and he’s been a big inspiration in my life. Growing up, I realized that my happiest moments often involved being around children and helping them. That sense of joy and purpose led me to pursue a career in pediatrics.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

As a general pediatrician, I’m particularly good at newborn care, as well as managing children with gastrointestinal issues and ADHD. Children often find me warm and approachable, which helps build trust. Parents frequently tell me they appreciate my knowledge, patience, and ability to communicate clearly and directly. I strive to create a positive, supportive environment where families feel heard and cared for.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

I take time to understand each child’s unique challenges and adjust my approach accordingly—whether that means offering longer appointment times, minimizing sensory triggers in the exam room, or using visual aids and simple language for communication. I work closely with families and caregivers to ensure the visit is as comfortable and supportive as possible, and I coordinate care with specialists and therapists when needed.
