Q&A with Dr. Alamo-Aponte
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
The Lion King
What is your favorite children's book and why?
I didn't like to read when I was young, but love studying world atlas & maps. I knew most world capitals, recognized flags and currencies.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Metal Jacks! I loved sitting on the floor to play them with my sister & my grandmother.
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My 2 greatest inspirations are my boys. Both give me motivation, purpose and love to make me a better parent and Pediatrician.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Spending time with my family and traveling. We like to visit a new country at least once a year. Exposing my boys to different cultures and experiences is simply priceless.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
My passion growing up was the FBI. Medicine came to me late in high school, and Pediatrics in college. I have always liked being with children as I had many cousins growing up in Puerto Rico. Through the years, I realized I had the skill and talent to work with children, so I pursued Pediatrics. I love every stage of childhood, as each one is unique. I enjoy talking about development and preventive care, as I consider both topics where we I can help make a difference.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I have been practicing Pediatrics for over 20 years. I can definitely say, I am not the same as I was when I started. I have learned the importance of good communication skills, patience, and understanding. These qualities have helped in developing the trust with my patients and their parents throughout the years. I am super laid-back, casual and funny at times. As a Latina, I hug when needed, used a bunch of terms of endearments and talk a lot!!
