Q&A with Dr. Yoyakey
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
Mulan
What is your favorite children's book and why?
The Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce because of the strong female child lead.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Barbie dolls
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
Helen Keller was disabled but persevered and showed the world what she could do.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Spending time with family, playing piano.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
As a child I loved to take care of younger children and my dream of being a pediatrician started then. I told my pediatrician when I was five years old that I would be a pediatrician. Children are innocent, and they can be molded to be great with love and care and instruction. I want to help parents teach their children to be the best child and adult.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
Having a psychology background helps me to usually set the child and parents’ mind at ease. From infancy to adulthood, through the stages of child development one must approach the infant/toddler/child/preteen/teen differently.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
For example, children with Down’s syndrome or Autism spectrum one must know to take their time and slowly let them get accustomed and say what you will do before doing it.
