Q&A with Dr. Harris
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
The Lion King
What is your favorite children's book and why?
The Giving Tree - a story of selfless love
What was your favorite childhood toy?
My Big Wheel
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
Anthony Fauci, because he personally treated Ebola patients because he would not put other physicians at risk without taking the same risk himself.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Weight training and tournament poker.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I used to teach martial arts to children for years and rediscovered my love of helping kids during my pediatric rotation in medical school.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I have cultivated a relationship with families who are now bringing second generation patients to me. I like to engage the siblings who are not being seen. I try to entertain the kids and make the visit fun for them and to minimize anxiety.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
I make sure that I have all of their records from any outside entities where they are getting care, make sure that they are all communicating with each other as needed, and try to identify any gaps in care. Essentially I'm the "quarterback" of the medical term
