Q&A with Amanda

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

Bugs Bunny (or anything Looney Tunes)

What is your favorite children's book and why?

I love the children's book Amelia Bedelia because she's quirky, funny, and goes on a lot of adventures.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

Growing up in the middle of a corn field, in a small, rural town in Ohio, I enjoyed going outside everyday to explore, play and have adventures with my friends, including riding my bicycle, roller-blading, and exploring the woods.

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

As a Christian, my greatest inspiration comes from Jesus and the Bible. I find inspiration from His teachings about love, compassion, and forgiveness. He faced adversity with grace and resilience, providing a great example of how to live your life.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

My hobbies include spending time with family, traveling, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, martial arts, and medical missions. Did you know...I have a black belt in karate.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

As a young child suffering from asthma, I was constantly having to go to the doctor’s office. Seeing the compassion and care from the nurses and doctors as they treated my asthma is what inspired me to go into Pediatrics.
Many of my extended family members are also in the medical field as Physicians, Nurses, Physical Therapists and Pharmacists. They all served as encouragement to me as I studied in school to realize my dream of one day being able to help children in need.
Another life-changing moment was going on my first Medical Mission trip (to Honduras) and now sharing that passion with my husband, by leading Medical Missions in Belize.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

As a pediatric provider, I provide a comprehensive, family-centered approach, grounded in compassion, communication and continuity of care. Treating children means partnering with their families, listening, educating and empowering them at every stage. Parents and caregivers are integral members of the care team. I encourage open dialogue and shared decision-making. Every family should leave feeling heard, reassured and confident in their plan of care. My goal is not just to provide excellent clinical care, but to be a trusted advocate and resource throughout a child’s growth and development.
