Q&A with Dr. Kiang

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

One of my favorite cartoon is Little Einsteins. My children and I really enjoyed watching this cartoon which exposed the kids to classical music, the arts, and teamwork. My kids are older now and I still have their plush toy rocket ship.

What is your favorite children's book and why?

My kids would have me read ""Where's Spot" pop up books to them over and over. We read them so many times that on most pages, I had to tape the pop ups back to the page.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

I always loved cooking so of course my favorite toy was an EZ Bake oven. Those cakes cooked by a light bulb were delicious!

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

My greatest inspiration were my parents. They were hardworking immigrants who worked tirelessly so that their children would have the best opportunities. Thanks to my parents, I get to do what I love most, which is taking care of my patients and their families.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I enjoy playing a lot of tennis, reading, and spending time with my husband and our four children.

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

I always knew that I would be in a profession where I would be able to help children. Initially, I was planning on becoming a teacher. Eventually, that changed and during my clinical years in medical school, pediatrics was my favorite rotation. I truly enjoy my job of keeping the kids healthy, helping them recover from illnesses, and being a part of many families.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I really enjoy spending time getting to know and listening to the kids and the families that I take care of. Forming a partnership between myself and the families is the key to providing the best care. I realize that it is an honor and privilege that is given to me when parents trust me with the health of their children.
