Q&A with Hila
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
I love the movie Finding Nemo because all three of my boys wanted to watch it over and over when theyvwere little.
What is your favorite children's book and why?
My favorite kids book is Goodnight Moon. My best friend gave it to my first son and we still have it at home. We all know it by heart at this point.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
I loved puzzles as a kid. Still today I work on them and then turn them into wall art. My latest one has 5000 pieces and I have been working on it for 3 months already. It really helps me decompress.
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My late husband is my greatest inspiration. He was an incredible father, full of energy always and he loved to throw fun parties at our home that he literally built with his own hands for our family and friends. He had some serious gumption and I aspire to always have his fun spirit and no nonsense attitude.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I enjoy watching anything soccer but especially my youngest son play. I also love cooking for my family and
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I remember spending hours standing over my younger brother’s crib when he was first born and making him giggle. It was just the two of us for a long time and 17 years later my parents had my baby sister. My mom would bring her to visit me in college every week.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
With every room that I go into, I remind myself to be good listener and that although the patient may just have a simple illness, that Iam there to guide and support their caretaker who may be feeling very worried about their child’s symptoms.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
It’s all about communicating with the parent who knows their child best. I always begin by prompting and explaining what is the next step in the exam. I may continue the conversation by phone with parents if the child appears to be fatigued by the visit. We consider doing the exam outdoors or in a different area of the office where the child may be more comfortable.
