What is your favorite children's book and why?

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. One of my favorite memories of elementary school is sitting in the library while they read that book to us. I loved sharing it with my own children when they were old enough.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

Lego, Lego, Lego! Infinite possibilities.

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

I've always been inspired by the Antarctic explorers, but none more than Roald Amundson, the first to arrive at the South Pole and make it back alive. I'm inspired by his determination and exceptional planning, and his willingness to change the status quo.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Reading, gardening, crochet, and adventure travel!

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

In medical school, I was interested in just about everything, but in pediatrics I went home every day with a smile on my face.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I like to think that I'm particularly good at listening to my patients and giving them the attention that they need. I'm a straight shooter, and my patients know I don't hold anything back. I think it's important to give children and teenagers as much independence as they can handle, and as much privacy as they want or need.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

I have a particular interest in children with neurodevelopmental conditions. I make an effort to involve them in discussions, and I'm familiar with the challenges families face.

I also have a special interest in treating our vulnerable Queer community.
