Q&A with Rachel
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
My favorite animated movie is Peter Pan, because it reminds you that you are never to old to dream.
What is your favorite children's book and why?
Corduroy; it shows that true friends accept us for who we are, flaws and all.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Barbies. My sister and I would spend hours using our imagination and expressing our creativity. Barbie can do and be anything!
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My greatest inspiration is my mother. She has worked so hard towards helping my siblings and I achieve our goals and has always been very selfless.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children going to the zoo and Disney! I also enjoy going to Orlando City Soccer games, reading, going to the beach and crafting.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I was inspired to pursue pediatrics after my cousin had a premature baby who spent weeks in the NICU. Seeing the dedication of the medical team and the impact they had on both the baby and the family left a lasting impression on me. Working in the NICU myself further deepened my passion—I found it incredibly meaningful to care for such vulnerable patients.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
One of the qualities that truly sets me apart in patient care is my ability to listen with intention and empathy. Becoming a parent myself has further shaped my approach to care. Having children has taught me patience, compassion, and the importance of being present, especially in emotionally charged situations. These experiences have deepened my empathy and enhanced my ability to connect with patients and their families on a more personal level.
