Q&A with Rene
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
My favorite animated shows are The Pink Panther and SpongeBob SquarePants.
What is your favorite children's book?
My favorite children's book is The Little Engine That Could because it teaches optimism, perseverance, and the importance of working hard while maintaining a positive attitude.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
My favorite childhood toy was an Easy-Bake Oven.
Who is your greatest inspiration?
Florence Nightingale is my greatest inspiration. She represented the qualities that I strive to bring to my practice every day such as compassion, dedication and patient advocacy. Her commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing the nursing profession motivates me to provide the highest quality care while building meaningful relationships with the children and families that I serve.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Spending time with family; boating, fishing, swimming, going to the beach. I also love to cook!
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I always loved being around children. As a young girl I would volunteer to work in the church nursery on Sunday mornings. As an adolescent, I really enjoyed babysitting. When I decided to attend Nursing school, the Pediatric rotation was by far the most enjoyable. My first job as an RN was in the Neonatal ICU.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I take great pride in having worked as a nurse for ten years prior to becoming an Advanced Practice Nurse. My years at the bedside prepared me to provide a higher level of care and strengthened my ability to support patients in advanced practice. I am compassionate, a strong listener, and deeply supportive in my care approach. I am committed to giving each patient and family the time, attention, and respect they need and deserve. I am also a breastfeeding advocate, and value the continuity of care I can provide as an APRN, supporting patients and families through every stage of their health journey.
