Q&A with Lauren
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
I love a good disney movie. I would say my favorite would be Monsters Inc and Finding Dory.
What is your favorite children's book and why?
Harry Potter all the way, huge fan! Cant wait until my boys get into it so we can visit Harry Potter World with them
What was your favorite childhood toy?
My favorite toys as a child were my baby dolls. I had three very realistic looking dolls that I took with me everywhere.
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
My greatest inspiration would have to be J.K. Rowling. She was a single mom with very little resources writing her stories on napkins in cafes because her heat would get shut off from unpaid bills. She is now the first author in history to have a net worth of over a billion dollars.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I spend my time off from work raising my two boys along side of my husband. We love to be outside. We enjoy going to farmers markets and fishing on the weekends. We have a chicken coop full of chickens as well as some ducks. I enjoy exercising and running.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
Growing up my mom was a pediatric nurse and I naturally followed in her footsteps. I started my career as a pediatric nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit where my mom and I actually worked together. After finishing my nurse practitioner degree I moved to the pediatric emergency room. However, after having children of my own I became interested in the well child aspect of the medical field and started working in primary care.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I think being a parent myself helps me build a great rapport with my patients. I understand the average day can be challenging and some expectations can be unrealistic. I understand that giving a toddler an antibiotic three times a day is a very difficult task. I can sympathize with parents suffering with a preschooler that has an ongoing night time cough. I’ve been in their shoes, I understand what they are going through.
