Q&A with Dr. Smith
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
A Goofy Movie. I loved that the movie was about a teenager and not a little kid since it felt like Disney had skipped over this stage in the past. More recently I have loved Encanto.
What is your favorite children's book and why?
"The Rainbow Fish" by Marcus Pfister - The story provides a great message on what really matters in life. Community and relationships with others are much more valuable than our physical appearance or material items.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Barbie - I could spend hours with my next door neighbor coming up with lives and activities for our Barbie crew to explore. We had multiple variations of Barbie and I really believed that a girl could do anything she put her mind to in the future.
Who is your greatest inspiration and why?
Jesus - he had fame and an extremely large following with which he could have become the richest man on Earth. Instead, he used his position to serve others and feed the poor. I truly believe I am here to serve others and my hope is that the biggest impact of my life will be through service.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Cooking, travel, reading, family time, kids crafts, pilates.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
The human body has always fascinated me. The different systems of the body work independently to accomplish their tasks and are laser focused on their purpose. The systems also work cohesively with other bodily systems to produce an amazing product both in function and design. I love learning all I can about how the body works and what makes it thrive. Studying children adds the benefit of learning how these bodily systems grow and develop. Plus, kids are a lot more fun than adults!
